The "Gov" Burgers paired with 2008 Pinot Noir

On the heels of Labour Day weekend what could be more fitting than a relaxing fresh and easy BBQ dinner and a glass of wine?

Traditionally this weekend marks the end of summer. Most find the weekend jam packed with a flurry of things to do all while pressing the “reset” button as a new year of school begins for the kids and summer holidays are already a distant memory. Schedules are reborn, books and binders are bought, and the search is on for the perfect back to school outfit.  Here’s an idea to keep dinner fresh and simple, pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the last long weekend of the summer.

The “Gov” Burgers. These burgers are a staple during the Masters week in Augusta. Mike’s dear old friend Steve “The Gov” Bennett cooks up a storm every year for the boys in Augusta and his  burgers are legendary.
Here’s the recipe – short, sweet and easy. He doesn’t give measurements but rather encourages experimentation. The Gov usually serves these up with baked beans, a garden salad and I’ve even heard he makes a mean Pecan Pie (I will work on getting that recipe out of him).

A little note on Steve – not only is he the resident chef every year in Augusta for Mike and his entourage. He’s a longtime friend of Mike. Steve was the head golf pro at Huron Oakes Golf Course. The course Mike played while growing up in Sarnia. Steve taught Mike the game and hired him to work the driving range and in the pro shop.

These burgers are best enjoyed with a glass of Mike Weir Pinot Noir both while making them and eating them! This wine was recently released in Vintages and available to order thru our website.
