Tasting Notes

The harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc make a balanced and well structured medium bodied red, the flagship of the Mike Weir Wine portfolio. The Cabernet Franc shines through in this years blend with aromas of pepper and spice on the nose followed by berry notes on the palate. The pleasing interplay between fruit, tannin and acidity with smooth rounded texture on the palate allows this wonderful Meritage to pair well with many dishes. Enjoy with beef, lamb, duck and aged cheeses.

Ageing: wine can be enjoyed and will continue to develop 2-5 years.

Technical Notes

The Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc were harvested in mid October exclusively from the magnificent vineyards of Chateau des Charmes in Niagara On The Lake.  The deep garnet colour is a result of the “delestage” skin and juice contact. This wine was aged for 10 months  in Allier and Troncais oak barrels. The varietal composition of the blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, lending to the tannic structure and backbone; 20% Merlot, contributing to the ripe fruit velvety flavour and texture; and 25% Cabernet Franc, adding to the fleshy round mouth feel.
