2008 Riesling

Tasting Notes

A sweet bouquet of tangerine and key lime dominate the aromas in this wine. Soft pear and mineral follows on the mid palate adding depth and complexity. This off dry Riesling is superbly balanced and finishes with a punch of lively mouth watering acidity.

Makes for a great afternoon sipper while prepping dinner then its time to fire up the BBQ as grilled chicken and spicy pork sausages are in order!

Reviews & Accolades

Best White Wine of the Year: All Canadian Wine Championships

2011 Gold medal: 2011 Ontario Wine Awards

2011 Canadian Wine Awards: Silver

"I'm not usually a fan of wine that bears the name of a celebrity, sporting or otherwise. But this one won the gold medal at this year's Ontario Wine Awards in the off-dry Riesling category. It has flavours of honeyed lime and cantaloupe, with refreshing acidity. It will make you think twice about Riesling. Food match: aperitif wine, smoked fish"
Tony Aspler Aug 2, 2011

"If proof were needed that Mike Weir is really more comfortable on top, leading the pack, try this riesling. It's not only great value, it won Best White Wine of the Year at the All Canadian Wine Championships for 2011.Austere and not too aromatic nose with grapefruit and a mineral hint. Rich surprise on the palate, which is quite unctuous. A high line of acidity keeps things fresh over a honeyed note, a bit of floral and lots of lemon-lime. This is off-dry but the acidity keeps it fresh right through the finish. Good stuff, and I for one would love to see what this winemaker could do with this quality of riesling if he went for a bone-dry style."

"For a so-so year this is more than just a so-so Riesling. Hints of petrol have already crept into the nose, while the palate delivers pureed peaches and pears with a delightful long finish. Price: $14.95 - Rating: ****"
